Carat

A "carat" is a measurement of how much a diamond weighs.

One “carat” is equal to 200 milligrams.

Price increases with carat weight because larger diamonds are rarer and more desirable. However, two diamonds of equal carat weight can have very different values depending on their color, clarity, and cut.

The most important thing to keep in mind when deciding on carat weight is the "finger coverage ratio." A large finger coverage ratio will result in a stone that covers much of the distance across the finger. Each person has their own preference when it comes to finger coverage. A stone with a 50% finger coverage ratio will take up half the width of one's finger - such that the diamond is framed with a 25% boarder on each side.

Please refer to our size guide for details on how to calculate the ideal size diamond for the finger coverage ratio you desire.
